Aides of deceased arraigned in court

The two domestic staff  who murdered former Vice- Chancellor of Federal University of Technology,  Akure, FUTA, Professor Albert Ilemode, were on Wednesday docked before an Akure Chief Magistrate’s Court.

Daniel Ita Effiom, 24, and Olayemi Bamitale, 36.

The accused, Daniel Ita Effiom, 24, and Olayemi Bamitale, 36, were arraigned on a five-count charge of murder and robbery before the court sitting at Oke-Eda in Akure, the Ondo State capital.

They were being charged for the murder of the 78-year-old former Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology (FUTA). He was strangled to death and his body dumped in the generator house of the compound. The driver and night guard had then fled the house with a car which they were arrested trying to sell for a ridiculous price in Ogun State.

Police prosecutor, Inspector Isah Atanegbe, read the charge: “That you Daniel Ita Effiom and Olayemi Bamitale on June 21, 2015 at about 9pm at No.1 Ikere Street, Ijapo Estate commit felony to wit: murder and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 324 of the Criminal Code Cap.37 Vol.1 Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria 2006.

That you Daniel Ita Effiom and Olayemi Bamitale on the same date, time and place in the aforementioned magisterial district did kill one Professor Albert Adeoye Ilemobade by jointly strangling him to death and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 316 and punishable under Section 319 of Criminal Code Cap.37 Vol.1 Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria 2006.”

That you Daniel Ita Effiom and Olayemi Bamitale on the same date, time and place in the aforementioned magisterial district did conspire together to commit felony to wit: robbery and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 403A of the Criminal Code Cap.37 Vol.1 Laws of Ondo state of Nigeria 2006.

That you Daniel Ita Effiom and Olayemi Bamitale on the same date, time and place in the aforementioned magisterial district did rob one late Professor Albert Adeoye Ilemobade of an SUV with number plate Lagos GGE-589-CF valued yet unknown and the sum of seven thousand naira property of late Professor Albert Adeoye Ilemobade and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 401 of the Criminal Code Cap.37 Vol.1 Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria 2006.”

Atanegbe, therefore, pleaded with the court to remand the suspected killers of the Prof. in prison custody until the legal advice from office of the Director of Public Prosecution, DPP, was received.

The presiding Chief Magistrate, Mrs. Victoria Bob-Manuel, thereafter, ordered that the accused persons be remanded in Olokuta Medium Prison and adjourned the matter till September 18 for hearing.
