Man who beats son to death says the boy stole phones

A man who tortured his own son to death in Ogun State has justified his action by saying the boy stole phones at a party.

Punch reports that Adekoya who reportedly tortured the boy,Wariz, to death on Tuesday, October 11, 2016, confessed to the police that the boy brought him shame by stealing the mobile phones at a party, as well as money belonging to his stepmother.

Adekoya who is now being detained at the homicide department at the State Police headquarters in  Eleweran, Abeokuta, was reported to have murdered his son in Ago-Iwoye and was arrested by officers after neighbours reported the case.

The State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Abimbola Oyeyemi, who confirmed the incident, said the suspect was nabbed by policemen attached to the Ago-Iwoye Division following a tip-off from members of the community.

“The corpse of the boy has been deposited at St. Joseph Catholic Hospital Mortuary, Oke-Agbo, Ijebu-Igbo, for an autopsy," ASP Oyeyemi said.

The police spokesman said that preliminary investigation revealed several marks on the body of the victim as a result of series of torture from the suspect.

He added that the suspect will be arraigned in a court of competent jurisdiction as soon as the police complete its investigations.
