Serial rapists arrested in Akwa Ibom
A three man rape gang who abducted, hypnotized and rape their victims say they have lost count of women they defiled.
The suspects, Utibe Archibong, 29, Charles Essien 27 and 24-year-old James Etim, allegedly confessed to the police that they have lost count of the number of women they have raped during their crime spree.
They were said to operate in Uyo, the state capital, by using a commercial tricycle to pick unsuspecting female passengers before hypnotising and raping them.
While parading the suspects at the State Command Headquarters, Ikot Akpan Abia, Uyo, the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Cordelia Nwawe, said they were apprehended by a team of Special Anti-Robbery (SARS) and State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) following a tip-off by one of their victims.
According to Nwawe, the victim, a University of Uyo student, while aboard the tricycle, was hypnotised and then taken to a place where she was raped several times.
After sexually assaulting her, the suspects made her to swear to an oath never to reveal the incident to anyone or she would die but the lady summoned the courage and narrated her ordeal to her roommates in the hostel who advised her to report the incident to the police, leading to the arrest of the rapists.
The suspects, while confessing to the crime, said many young women had fallen prey to their antics and that they had been raping for a very long time.
