Kidnap suspect shot dead while picking N3m ransom

Operatives of the Special Anti Robbery Squad in Lagos have shot dead a notorious kidnapper who led his gang to abduct a business woman while picking the ransom money.

Niyi Omosola, a suspected kidnap kingpin has been sent to his untimely grave by the police in Epe area of Lagos as he was trying to pick a ransom money of N3 million after his gang had kidnapped an business woman, Kudirat Adeboye, and demanded for the money from her family.

According to reports, Omosola died as a result of gun shot wounds he sustained while collecting the ransom that was dropped by the side of the road.

It was learnt that Omosola, an indegene of Ondo State, allegedly led the gang which kidnapped the 62-year-old woman in the Elemoro, Ajah area of the state, on Thursday, April 16, 2015 at about 7pm.

The wealthy business woman was said to be inspecting the construction work at a new  petrol station she is putting up in the area when Omosola and his gang swooped on her and abducted her.

The gang later contacted her family and made a demand of N50 million as ransom for her release but after negotiations, N3 million naira was agreed and on Wednesday, April 22, the woman's brother who had been communicating with the gang, took the ransom to an agreed hideout in the Epe area.

However, a team of police operatives led by the Special Anti-Robbery Squad commander, Abba Kyari, was said to have trailed Adeboye's brother to the hideout.

A police report revealed that while collecting the ransom, the deceased sighted the police and opened fire on the security operatives and when he saw that he was outnumbered, he tried to escape on a motorcycle, and the police had no choice but to gun him down.

"The kidnappers are a notorious gang. They had conducted several operations in the area. In the latest incident, they demanded N50m initially, but when the family could not produce the amount, they finally agreed to N3m. They also arranged where the place of meeting would be in the Epe area.

The police trailed the brother, who was taking the money to Epe, where Omosola was waiting. Immediately he collected the ransom, he suspected that policemen were around and he began to shoot sporadically.

He got on a motorcycle and was riding off when he was gunned down. He did not die immediately."

The injured Omosola led the SARS operatives to a bush between Epe and Ijebu Ode, where the woman was held and she was rescued alive.
