Man murders wife, commits suicide in Enugu

It was double tragedy in a community in Enugu State after a man hacked his wife to death before killing himself.

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the gruesome incident which happened in the Enugu East Local Government Area of Enugu State, has thrown the community into horror and the residents are wondering what could have led Uzo into committing such an abominable act.

The State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) DSP Ebere Amaraizu who confirmed the tragedy, said that the tragic incident occurred on November 15, 2016, at the couple's residence at Nchantancha-Nike area of the state.

DSP Amaraizu said the police gathered that on the day of the incident, Uzo had allegedly pounced on his wife with a machete following the dispute, and inflicted several cuts on her.

The woman lost several pints of blood before she was taken to a hospital, was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty and the incident was reported to the police.

But on arrival at the scene to arrest the culprit, the police found his lifeless body on the floor.

Amaraizu said that Uzo was rushed to the Annunciation Hospital, Emene, for medical attention but was confirmed dead on arrival, adding that the remains of the husband and his wife had been deposited at the mortuary for autopsy, while an investigation into the sordid incident has begun in earnest.
