Former LG Chairman bags 7 years imprisonment for fraud in Kaduna
A former local government chairman in Kaduna State has been jailed for seven years for defrauding a contractor while he was in power.
Kaduna News Online reports that the State High Court handed down the sentence on Baba, without an option of a fine, over a phony gas supply contract.
The judge, Justice Tukur Mu'azu, heard that Baba had defrauded one Alhaji Auwal Ibrahim, the CEO of Rahusa Investment Limited, Sabon Hunkuyi, of the sum of N1 million sometime in 2011, over the non-existent gas supply contract.
It was gathered that Baba had duped the victim of the sum for the supply of five trucks of gas at the rate of N200,000 per truck, knowing that such contract was neither approved of or existed.
But after the payment was made, the victim neither received the product nor gets a refund prompting him to petition the Commissioner of Police, leading to the arrest of the former LG boss.
