What could have led this young boy with so much life in front of him to commit suicide?

Tragedy has struck yet again as a young student, Effiong Otu, of the Maritime Academy, Oro Akwa Ibom State, has committed suicide because his girlfriend jilted him.

The 21-year-old Effiong, according to reports, decided to hang himself on the same day his family were remembering his late father who died exactly 10 years ago.

To celebrate his father's 10 years anniversary, the boy who is the only son of his mother, decided to take his own life to protest his girlfriend dumping him for another man.

The report has it that after the anniversary marking his father's death, Effiong went to a neighbour to borrow a rope.

Raising the alarm, the broke into Effiong's room and found his lifeless body hanging from the ceiling fan.

It was a close friend of the late boy who later informed the family that Effiong must have committed suicide because his girlfriend had dumped him.

The friend said Effiong had called him earlier to tell him that his girlfriend, whose name he gave as Blessing, should be happy he has killed himself for her.

Few days before he committed the act, Effiong had also taken to Facebook to post this worrisome message:

It’s not about being engaged, married or in a relationship. It’s about being happy, safe, secured, relieved and feeling good. It’s about peaceful state of mind, it’s about sleeping at night without the fear of losing what you’ve got.

It’s being yourself and not someone else, it’s about feeling loved, happy, respected, understood, cared for and appreciated.!

Goodnight my beautiful people!

According to his close friends, Effiong was so much in love with the said Blessing and could not stand to see her walk out of his life.
