Police Inspector in trouble for raping 15-yr-old girl at gunpoint

An Inspector of Police in Akwa Ibom State is in trouble for allegedly raping a 15-year-old girl at gunpoint.

The young victim of rape

It was gathered that the girl, a Senior Secondary School student of Community Secondary School, Iyadiong, in the local government, was accosted by a police team on her way from an evening church programme, with the Inspector who was the leader of the team, threatening to shoot her if she resisted the arrest.

Narrating her ordeal to family members later, the victim said that the Inspector allegedly led her away from other members of the team and took her to a dark spot along the road where he began fondling her breasts.

"He started by fondling my breasts, saying; 'na small you, possess this type of breasts!' After that, he forced me to remove my clothes, and he ordered me to lie down and open my legs and then.

As he was raping me, he warned me not to cry and threatened to shoot me if I opened my mouth. Blood was oozing from my private parts, but the policemen dragged me into their vehicle and drove to the station, where he detained me from Thursday till Saturday.

It was my uncle, Dr Ime Stephen, that came from Abuja and bailed me with N10,000.”

The said uncle, who said the culprit was also a police prosecutor, added that he could not believe his eyes when the girl pointed at the cop as the one who raped her from among the policemen who were on duty that time.

“We call for his dismissal from the force so that he can be prosecuted accordingly,” Stephen urged the police authorities.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Murtala Mani, confirmed knowledge of the incident, saying the police had already commenced investigations, adding that all the policemen that were on patrol from the station at the time of the incident, were in detention at the police headquarters in Uyo.

“We have already started investigation into the matter. We have detained all the policemen involved. I interviewed the victim close to three hours. If the culprits are found wanting, they would be dismissed and prosecuted."
