Woman blinds 15-yr-old step-son

A step-mother has been arrested for beating and blinding her husband's son.

Esther Modupe, a middle aged woman, has been arrested by policemen attached to the Surulere Division of the Lagos State Police Command for allegedly causing her 15-year-old step-son named Bolu, to go partially blind in one eye after she flogged him mercilessly over an offence he committed.

The incident which happened at the Onipanu area of the state, according to reports, has left the boy who is to sit for the post-Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), in preparation for a university admission, bedridden as he has not been able to see with his left eye.

It was gathered that Bolu's mother and his father, Lekan Williams, had separated about 10 years ago, and Williams had single-handedly brought him up with his other sibling till he got married again about three years ago to Esther.

Since then, according to neighbours of the Williams, the children had not seen anything called love from their step-mother who maltreated them at every given opportunity.

The incident that led to the flogging of the boy by Esther, according to information, happened when the family went for a church function, leaving the apartment key with Bolu but by the time they came back, the boy was nowhere to be found as he had gone out.

When he later came back, his step mother was so angry that she picked up a cane and flogged the daylight out of him.

It was in the process that the cane was said to have hit him in the eye, partially blinding him.

The boy’s eye reportedly became swollen after which he was said to have been rushed to a private hospital but a month later, the condition of the eye became worse.
