The NYPD said that the Long Island man set his rental car on fire while trying to kill bed bugs inside the vehicle on Tuesday.

According to the police investigation, Kemery poured alcohol on the insects before sitting down in the car and lighting a cigarette. The fumes set the alcohol on fire. He ran out of the vehicle, but he still suffered burns. Kemery told police that someone told him that if bed bugs are saturated with alcohol they die. Police said that two cars were badly damaged by the intense heat of the fire.
