The terrorists had on April 14 invaded the Government Girls Secondary School in Chibok Borno state and abducted nearly 300 girls preparing for examinations.
#BringBackOurGirls: US Senator Urges Reward, Asylum For Informants
A US Senator, Charles Schumer, has on Sunday called on Washington to offer a reward for reliable information that will help rescue the school girls abducted by Boko Haram.
"It is one of the most despicable thing a group can do," Schumer said of the girls' abduction.
Schumer noted that the abduction will discourage others from aspiring to be educated.
"Imagine taking the flower of your nations and trying to destroy it and sending a message to every other young girl in Nigeria who aspires to get an education and a better life and better health that 'we are going to hurt you.'"
Schumer urges the US government to offer asylum to anyone who provides help towards the rescue of the girls.
Following threats by Boko Haram that the girls will be sold off, the Senator also wants anyone who buys or hurts any of them to be put on US terror watch list.
Meanwhile, Boko Haram has in a recent video showed some of the abducted girls who they claimed to have converted into Islam.
