Mother treks for GMB with 40-day-old infant strapped on her back

A mother did the unthinkable when she strapped her 40-day-old baby on her back and trekked for over 70 kilometers to celebrate GMB's victory.

Alice Daniel and her baby

In the olden days, they used to say that any mistake is a fad in Nigeria and the trend is continuing with the way trekking has taken over the polity after the general elections that brought in Gen. Muhammadu Buhari as the President-Elect.

Everyday, new trekkers spring up, either in support of Buhari or to celebrate President Goodluck Jonathan as a hero but the one many people think is stupidity is that of a new mother, Alice Daniel, who strapped her 40-day-old infant baby daughter on her back and undertook a crazy trek for Buhari from Minna, the Niger State capital, to Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, a distance of about 70 kilometers.

The 35-year-old woman had reportedly told everyone before the election that if Buhari won, she would trek to Abuja to personally congratulate him and no one took her serious because she was heavily pregnant at the time she made the bet.

Before the election, according to her, her husband had a dream where he saw President Jonathan losing the election but she said it was impossible for an incumbent president to lose a Presidential election and pledged that if Jonathan lost, she would trek from Minna to Abuja to personally congratulate Gen. Buhari.

Daniel who appeared on Newsline, and NTA news programme, gave birth to the baby girl on April 2, 2015, and 40 days later, decided to fulfill her promise against the wishes of her husband, mother and some family members as well as friends who tried to stop her from embarking on her journey, but that her mind was made up to fulfill the bet she made.

Do you think what she did is justified? And what of the health implications on the baby?
