How to care for your gadgets during a trip

Tourists often travel with several electronics and gadgets, but have no idea how to keep them safe.

Phones and tablets

Such electronic equipments need proper and careful planning for recharging the batteries, as well as for keeping these gadgets safe.

Here are seven tips for taking care of your gadgets when on a trip:

1. Keep them away from view:

Instead of a belt clip or holster for your phone, keep it in your well tucked away pockets like a coat pocket or deep pockets in trousers.

Keep an eye on your gadgets and be more attentive in crowded places; trying to record a video in a busy market or street may make you an easy target for petty thieves.

2. Activate trackers:

Many mobile electronic devices have trackers that can help you pinpoint the exact location of the device before the thief goes too far. It will also help the appropriate authorities track down the missing or stolen device.

3. Don't travel with too many devices:

Your phones, cameras and tablets may be a necessity, but other high-tech stuff should be left behind if possible. Unless absolutely necessary, specialized and professional equipments should be left at home.

4. Keep them covered:

Apart from the elements, your gadgets stand the risk of being damaged by dust, heat and sand. So if you're going on a beach holiday, be sure to get a waterproof case or secure your gadgets in a plastic bag.

5. Arm yourself with adapters:

It is important to have an adapter to suit the voltage of the country you are travelling to. Voltage disparity can damage your devices. The adapter you need will depend on the voltage in your home country and the type of your plug outlet.
