Actress keeps it frank on TV show

Black attendees boycott Oscar over a lack of diversification

Whoopi Goldberg

American actress, Whoopi Goldberg held no word back in her criticism of the intended boycott announced by two Hollywood heavy weight.

She believes that what is appearing to be a stereotype is as a result of the mentality about black movies.

While commenting on ABC’s ‘The View’, she said "It's not that the problem is that the people who are nominated are too white. They're not looking at a movie and saying, 'Oh, that's very white. I'm not going to nominate that black movie.' They're not sitting there like that!" Goldberg, 60, said during the live show. "What the problem is, the people who can be helping to make movies that have blacks and Latinos and women and all that — that movie doesn't come to you. Because the idea is that there's no place for black movies."

She made suggestions about giving a good fight to the cause by making known the dissatisfaction before an award show.

"You wanna boycott something? Don't go see the movies that don't have your representation. That's the boycott you want," she said. "To me, we have this conversation every year. It pisses me off."

According to reports, the contention is over a lack of diversity where only white actors have been nominated for the Oscars over the past two years.

Film director, Spike Lee and actress, Jada Pinkett Smith are the attendees who have announced that they will not be attending the 88th Academy Awards fixed for February 28, 2016.

Hot shot comedian, Chris Rock is to host the black-tie event.
