5 times Kenyan celebrities came through to help their fellow celebrities in dire need of help
Kenyan people are very giving and have secured money and help in the past for those in need. And our celebrities are not any different.

1. Conjestina Achieng
In 2012, Hubert Nakitare a.k.a Nonini, Churchill and Ambassador Yvonne Khamati (a former diplomat to Somalia) organized a fundraising at Tamasha to raise money for ailing boxer Conjestina Achieng.
The fundraiser raised over 450,000 Kshs and Resolution Health promised to provide a year’s medical cover for Conjestina and her son after contributing 100,000 Kshs.

2. Maurice Odumbe
After years of oblivion, Fashion Watch’s Robert Burale informed us that former high-flying cricketer Maurice Odumbe was languishing in poverty and addiction.
After this story was highlighted in various media outlets and on social media, Maurice was finally able to get help.
He got into rehab through the help of Robert Burale, Heshan De Silva and Jeff Koinange who highlighted his plight on Jeff Koinange Live on KTN.
A few days after the show aired, Maurice was offered food clothes and two job offers. About a month after the show, Maurice got the help he needed after he enrolled at Teens Challenge Rehab Center at Ridgeways along Kiambu road

3. Achieng Abura
Before her death, singer Achieng Abura revealed that her son has been sick for a while and she had been suffering silently with her son who has sickle cell anemia and a heart condition.
After her death, Boniface Mwangi and Larry Madowo spearheaded a campaign to get Achieng’s son the help he needed through an M-Pesa PayBill: 891300, Account: ABURA”.
Unfortunately for some of them, their offer was heavily criticized by Kenyans who felt that it was a little too late as Kenyan celebrities had neglected Achieng when she needed them the most.
But despite the backlash some celebrities received, Kenyans have managed to contribute 4,049,707 to aid in his treatment.

4. Janet Kanini Ikua
In September 2015, Janet Kanini Ikua was diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer, the same cancer that claimed her father’s life 2 weeks after her wedding.
On November 8 2015, the Nation Media Group organized a fundraiser to aid in her treatment. Among the top acts who showed up to perform, MC or just support were Sauti Sol, Octopizzo,Daniel “Churchill” Ndambuki , Daddy Owen, Pitson.
Other celebrities who were present included King Kaka (Rabbit), Jaguar, Nameless, Wahu, Obinna, Frasha, Steve Mbogo, Kalekye Mumo, Willy Paul, Elani, Ringtone and Rufftone.
Some of the money was used for her treatment and a year later after going to India for treatment, Janet was cancer free. The other remaining amount of money was donated to the Children’s Cancer Ward at Kenyatta National Hospital.

5. Big Kev
Events’ Organizer Kevin Ombajo or Big Kev went to India last year for a life-saving operation after a tumor he had been battling for 6 years, reared its ugly head.
Unfortunately for him, this time the tumor came back with vengeance rendering him blind after the operation.
“It’s dark, very dark. Not all of us can relate but it is like being in a small dark room with no Windows and no doors. I can't remember the last time I saw my face in a mirror, and I meet people every day whom I hope to get to see soon…”read a part of his post on Facebook describing his current state.
Since leaving India, Big Kev was admitted to the Nairobi hospital where celebrities like Kidum and Uhuru Kenyatta paid him a visit.

While he was admitted, the Kenya showbiz fraternity is planning to raise funds for his treatment. This will be at a Sh10,000 per-attendant dinner this Friday at the Carnivore Restaurant and also at Mombasa's Big Tree Hotel.
In addition through the hashtag #TembeaNaBigKev, celebrities like Maina Kageni, Henry Desagu, Eve D'Souza among others are working to raise funds for Big Kev’s treatment through the poster below:
