African Union hosts actress for 1 African Summit on Child Marriage

Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde at the African Summit on Child Marriage

Nollywood queen Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde was hosted by the African Union and ONE at the first African Summit on Child Marriage held in Lusaka, Zambia.

The historic event took place on November 27, 2015. At the summit Omotola spoke about how movies and the media can help to stop child marriages in Africa.

At the summit was also Zambia president Edgar Lungu who stated that he wants to eliminate child marriage instead of curbing it.

Other dignitaries at the event were Zambian First Lady, Esther Lungu, South Africa’s First Lady Tobeka Zuma and Ethiopia First Lady Roman Tesfaye.

Ford Foundation, UNFPA, UNICEF, the Netherlands and the Canadian government graced the historic event.

In June, Omotola attended the World Economic Forum in Cape Town, South Africa.

This year the star actress has been a part of the ONE campaign spearheaded by rock legend Bono to eradicate poverty.
