Charles Novia Is A Cyberbully And Social Nuisance

Charles Novia's rampant public criticism of other entertainers makes you see past a great man who has made great movies. All that is left currently is just a memory of a filmmaker, a budding cyber-bully and social nuisance.

Charles Novia, is a great man in many ways. Great talent, great filmmaking career (which has peaked, and is in its twilight), great tastes, great choice of signature glasses, and most importantly, great thoughts.

But those Novia thoughts which he had put to good use during his heydays in Nollywood, has been let loose on the entertainment industry, into people’s business, and it doesn’t seem so great after all. Novia is a critic; he finds happiness in talking about other people under the smoke-screen of being honest and helpful. In reality, he just loves the feeling of talking over people and seeing his name in fine print, and the glossy promotion of the news headline.

That’s how he stays relevant and keeps his name alive. The movies have dried up, and all that is left are just words, which hurt, disturb the public peace, and humiliate. Ultimately, his end game is his name.

Check out his last week’s description of other people. Chika Ike, hardworker, vain woman, good actress. She has earned her celebrity status, and now, she just wants to spoil herself, party and share photos of her life on Instagram. But Novia thinks differently. To him, she’s not earned her right to vanity.

“Let me give an example with that Chika Ike. She is an actress or something? Yeah? How is it that she sorts of ensures that the whole Nigeria must know that she paid $24,000 for a two-day yacht ride in the Middle East? Isn’t that some sort of dysfunction of her faculties.” Charles declared.

Those aren’t the words for a leader and a social influencer. That just comes straight out of a cyber-bully handbook.

For Don Jazzy’s new recruits, He goes in on Dija, publicly telling her to put in more work on her ‘pronunciations’. Reekado Banks is ‘not natural enough’, because Novia just ‘still can't put a finger on his style’, and thinks ‘He seems to force himself to please in videos.’

For Genevieve Nnaji who was honoured for her inspirational role in Nollywood, Novia takes a shit on it, and disagrees because ‘she lacks the intrinsic ability to evolve artistically beyond her present heights in her career.’ He further specifically reveals that ‘There is an underlying stereotype in her interpretation of her roles in many of her movies; a linear aloofness and veiled disdain at the thought of being pushed further down the exploratory lane.’

There are tons of examples where Novia has not been so honourable, taking shots at hardworking people, and publicly calling out many who have struggled to attain prominence. Many will point out his advice as true and factual, and that’s what he wants to sell across to every shallow reader. But looking deeper you begin to deductively take from his criticism and ask questions.

He is known and respected, why does he never call the person directly and lodge his complaint or offer his advice? Why must it be played out in the media? Why lend a ‘helping’ hand publicly? Why put so much focus on your name and that of another star?

These sprouting questions, when answered honestly begin to throw new light on Novia’s intentions. This is not a man who has noble motives. These are the works of a man who loves the feel of being a bully. His penchant for this keeps him relevant, and that is his current hustle. Dija and Reekado Banks are your kids, why not call them up and work them through your corrections?

In many cases, Novia’s endgame works; he gets a stinging reply, and the media plays it up and he wins. He is in the news, his name is being promoted and he is stirring some reaction. That disturbs the news and social media. He is a nuisance, one who takes his noise out on the social media.

And that’s why in the end you don’t see a great man who has made great movies. All that is left currently is just a memory of a filmmaker.

And a budding cyber-bully and social nuisance…
