Couple split after 6 years of dating

The singer and the 36-year-old Hollywood actor have been dating for six years before making this decision to put an end to their relationship.

Lovato shocked her fans with the revelation of their split, considering how perfect they seemed together, never mind how in love they looked to be.

The 23-year-old singer shared their joint statement announcing the split today, June 4, 2016, via her Instagram page.

"After almost 6 years of loving and wonderful years together, we have decided to end our relationship.

This is an incredibly difficult decision for both of us, but we have realised more than anything, that we are better as best friends. We will always be supportive of one another.

"Thank you to anyone who has offered us kindness and support over the years. With only love, Wilmer and Demi."

Many fans expressed their disappointment and heart break over the split but we are also grateful that they have decided to remain friends.

The couple had met and fallen in love during a PSA Voto Latino in 2010, and have been very vocal about their feelings for each other since then.
