CEO announces solution for diesel emission scandal

The CEO, Matthias Müller, of Volkswagen has announced that the automaker has found a fix for most of the problematic four-cylinder diesel engines.

Yesterday, November 23rd, the CEO, Matthias Müller, of Volkswagen announced that the automaker has found a fix for most of the problematic four-cylinder diesel engines discovered to have been fitted with the “defeat device” software.

He made this announcement while speaking to company managers.

According to The Guardian,Müller said that the Federal Motor Transport Authority has signed off on a software update to fix affected 2-litre diesel motors.

The concerned parties have also received the “basic go” for a fix for the 1.6-litre vehicles that will also involve replacing an air filter cartridge and grill.

Müller said the company will deliver technical details on fixing cars fitted with emissions-rigging software to German regulators by the end of the month, adding that most of the affected vehicles do not need major work.

“For about 90% of the group’s vehicles in Europe the solutions are confirmed. The cost for the retrofitting is technically, physically and financially manageable.”
