Nissan has unveiled a new suite of semi-autonomous (self-driving) functions.

According to Executive Vice President, Hideyuki Sakamoto, this feature is intended to assist drivers, not replace them.

"These functions are meant to support drivers, and are not meant as self-driving capabilities. These are two very different things," he said.

General Manager of Nissan's Advanced Technology Development department, Tetsuya Iijima, spoke on the issues with automated driving functions.

"Naturally, there are limitations to the system, and our job is to communicate what those limitations are," he told reporters.

This feature will be available by August, 2016.

Reportedly, the Serena minivan will be the first model to carry this feature in Japan.
