Automobile manufacturer get approval for self-driving concept [VIDEO]

Ford has taken the first step in joining the list of manufacturers with self-driving technology by receiving approval of its patent for a backward facing driver seat.

Ford's Backward-Facing Driver's Seat patent

When you think of  self-driving cars, Google, who have been using them for a while, Mercedes, and other manufacturers like Audi and BMW, whose cars being tested in the real world, come to mind.

Now, Ford is taking it's first step towards joining this list as it's patent for backward-facing driver's seat has been approved.

According to topspeed, the backward-facing seat allows the driver (and passenger) to rotate the seats and engage with the rear passengers, just like you would in your home, while in motion.

It also allows you to move to the rear seat and fold the front seats downward, thereby allowing you to rest your feet during longer drives, while the vehicle is in motion.

At this rate, it is only a matter of time before driving will be as simple as saying “go to work” or “take me to the market” and relaxing while your self-driving car does all the work for you.
