5 interesting things to know about Tesla's latest competitor

Tesla has a new competitor called Faraday Future.

Relatively new, this car manufacturer has managed to gather some buzz after news leaked of intention to produce electric cars.

Other than that and news of the chief designer, Richard Kim, announcing the company's plan to participate at CES in January, not much is known about this company.

However, these five fascinating tidbits should keep you busy until we have more information on the very secretive manufacturer.

Has expert executive, engineers and workers- Just like Apple, Faraday Future is securing it's success by hiring 400 workers from all corners of the technology and engineering industries, as well as BMW and Tesla. In fact, the Senior Vice President and co-founder, Nick Sampson, worked with Tesla earlier on.

Goal- According to Sampson, Faraday wants a more connected relationship between the car and passenger. In an interview with Jalopnik, the Senior VP reveals that 'the car should not only navigate itself, but also learn about the passenger'. "If I plan my journey, the car should know my journey and some of the places I want to visit along the way, because it knows my preferences. The car should begin to learn my desires, and not just me as owner or user, but the people who are with me. It should be a much more social event to be in the car, to interact with people inside and outside the car." This includes finding out about passenger's music tastes, with the car learning what type of music each passenger prefers, and if multiple passengers are sharing a ride, it will play music of common interest with no input necessary.

Has a plan for all customers- Faraday recognises that not everyone wants to drive a car. In light of this, the carmaker has plans to develop ride-sharing or autonomous taxi-like vehicles. These vehicles learn everything about the passenger like the schedule for work, and show up based on this information. This makes sense considering that Jamais Cascio, a futurist and senior fellow at the Institute for Ethics and Emerging Technologies, says no one will own cars in 25 years.

Modern approach to car designing- Design Chief, Richard Kim, says Faraday takes a unique approach to design, rather than the traditional approach. This approach uses modern resources like augmented and virtual reality to design the vehicle. This results in a thought-to-product timeline of less than a year, which Kim claims is “a third of the time that I’m used to.” Previously, Kim worked at BMW, where he designed the carmaker’s i-range of vehicles.
