Scarcity continues with deregulation

Marketers laid the blame regarding its scarcity on not getting approval to import the product

Minister of State, Petroleum Resources, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu

The recent deregulation of kerosene by the Federal Government has not stopped it from being scarce.

According to the Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency, the government decided to stop subsidising House Hold Kerosene as well as Premium Motor Spirit, popularly called petrol, in order to allow the marketers to import the white products and sell at approved prices as captured in the PPPRA pricing templates.

In Abuja, almost all the filling stations except NNPC were not selling kerosene.

With the withdrawal of subsidization on the product, it now sells for N83 at NNPC outlets.

Marketers laid the blame regarding its scarcity on not getting approval to import the product, but the officials at the headquarters of the NNPC and the PPPRA stated that the deregulation of the kerosene market was enough evidence to let the marketers know that they were free to delve into the trade.
