Lawmakers in Nigeria have earned N600 billion in the last four years despite only passing 106 bills out of 1,063 presented to them.

Senators and House of Representatives members in the country have long been criticized for their high salary which has earned them the title of the world’s highest paid legislators.
Remuneration for Nigeria’s 109 Senators and 360 members of the House of Representatives usually gulps about 3% of Nigeria’s budget, according to reports.
The official annual salary for a Nigerian lawmaker is $50,000(about N12m) but they also earn large allowances, including the huge quarterly allowance which is nearly a $1m (N220m) a year, according to Premium Times.
Bayelsa State Senator-elect, Ben Murray-Bruce has called on the legislators and other political office holders to curb their consumption behaviour in order to allow much needed funds to be used in developing Nigeria’s failing economy.
