Jonathan Henning says Twitter has a lot of capabilities yet untapped
Twitter strategist talks innovation, censorship and branding on the platform
Jonathan Henning is a Creative Brand Strategist at Twitter. He recently spoke at the Access Conference 2015 on the topic: "How can social media help elect a president?" alongside media entrepreneur Chude Jideonwo.
Pulse Nigeria spoke to him about how effectively Nigerians were using Twitter to tell their stories.
“It is such a robust platform with so many capabilities, however, most people are using it in a way which is less conversational than it should be and less image based than it probably should be”, Henning said.
“I’d say there’s probably a lot of room for improvement everywhere not just Nigeria”.
He also addressed Twitters views on censorship and nudity.
“Twitter is all about Freedom of expression. So if it’s nudity, although we wouldn’t necessary condone some forms of nudity, we’re about providing free speech, providing a platform for free speech to the world”.
He also shared how brands could create on the social media platform.
“Know your audience, know what you are selling”, he advised.
On December 10, 2015, Access Bank sought to address some of the issues and changes presented by technology and innovation in several industries at its leadership conference.
The conference presented success stories from several industry leaders including by Herbert Wigwe, CEO and Group Managing Director of Access Bank, co-founder of Apple Steve Wozniak, President of the Nigeria Stock Exchange Aigboje AIG-Imokhuede, Head of Industry Google, Ted Souder, Founder LDA Couture Lanre Da Silva Ajayi and several others.
The Twitter strategist also spoke to us about Twitter’s video platforms: Vine and Periscope. Watch Jonathan Henning’s interview with Pulse TV in the video above. View pictures from the event in the gallery below:
