Get ready for new Apple laptops next month (AAPL)

The MacBook Air might be getting some love soon.

Apple CEO Tim Cook.

Apple is preparing three new laptops expected to launch next month at Apple's annual WWDC conference, Bloomberg reported on Tuesday.

Apple could release a refreshed version of the 12-inch MacBook with a new Intel chip, according to the report.

One of the complaints about Apple's MacBook laptop is that the current processor is optimized for battery life, not for performance. A new model using a different Intel chip could make the device more attractive to a wider swath of users, possibly at the expense of battery life.

New versions of the MacBook Pro with faster Intel chips are also planned for launch.

Apple may update its least expensive laptop, the MacBook Air, with a new processor as well.

For the past few years, Apple's hasn't launched hardware at its annual developer conference, but it appears to be gearing up to do so this year — previous rumors have suggested a smart speaker or a new iPad Pro.

Last fall, Apple launched MacBook Pros with a touchscreen integrated into the keyboard. Although the company says sales of the new laptops are robust, many professional users who wanted a new high-end laptop were disappointed.
