NFF orders players to arrive May 23

The move is to forestall late arrival of players, and inadequate preparation for the crucial qualifiers against the Bafana Bafana of South Africa.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has commenced preparations for the forthcoming African Cup of Nations qualifying match with South Africa in Uyo next month.

The NFF towards ensuring adequate preparation for the friendly match against Corsica on Friday, May 26, 2017. A minimum of 19 foreign-based professionals are expected to participate in a training camp in Corsica and Paris, France ahead of the clash with the South Africans.

The Eagles are expected to continue training camp in Paris from 27-31 May. There is also possibility that the National team may be playing a second friendly match with a yet-to-be-determined opponent on May 31.

Latest information about the match indicate that the South Africa Football Association (SAFA) wants the tie to be brought forward to enable them fix a friendly game before their players depart to their respective ‎clubs.

A request the NFF rejected and stated that AFCON 2019 Qualifiers date of June 10 won’t be shifted despite a request from South Africa for the tie to be moved forward.

“We had from 5-10th as possible dates, and only after due deliberation did we decide on 10th as the date for the game, we won’t shift or alter our plans to accommodate a late request”, the NFF source confirmed.
