Map and video show Masood was yards from the prime minister, separated only by 'clear air' when he was shot

May is seen being ushered toward her car by at least six bodyguards, some of whom are heavily armed.

A video shows Prime Minister Theresa May being evacuated from Westminster just yards from where Khalid Masood made his assault on Parliament in Wednesday's terror attack. The video shows that Masood got much closer to the prime minister than was initially thought.

While Masood was being shot by police in a park in front of Parliament, May was getting into her car just yards away, separated only by a reportedly open archway and a stretch of tarmac.

The security gates in front of the park — where Masood crashed his car — are usually kept open to accommodate deliveries, The Times reported today.

This map shows just how close Masood got to May:

Here is a zoomed in view of the location where Masood was taken down, as it relates to May's car:

The video, shot from above the parking lot where the prime minister was escorted to her car, was obtained by the Sun newspaper. May's escape took place as police gunfire could be heard just yards away, The Sun said.

A source told the paper: "There was clear air between the spot where the terrorist was shot down and Mrs May’s car."

For a moment the prime minister seems to be headed in the wrong direction before being redirected toward the car by security.

At the end of the video, one of the bodyguards seems to delay the car from driving off.

The bodyguard could have delayed the car from driving off because her security could have been compromised as, according to Sun information, there were just two open archways between her and the terrorist.

Masood attacked and killed PC Keith Palmer inside the grounds of Parliament after he ploughed into the crowds on Westminster bridge with a 4x4 vehicle.

Five people, including the attacker, have now died as a result of the attack and dozens were injured with many still in critical condition.
