Nigeria president returns home, says he's never been so ill

Contrary to the official line that was served Nigerians for weeks on end, Buhari confessed he's battling a severe health challenge.

Nigerian President Mohammadu Buhari said he couldn't remember being so sick since he was a young man

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo was constitutionally left to call the shots with Buhari away.

In the time he was away, presidency officials often said the nation's number one citizen is "hale and hearty" and was only awaiting medical test results from his Doctors.

Phone conversations and photo-ops with the President were also staged in a bid to quell growing speculation that Buhari was critically ill or on life support.

However, upon his return, Buhari told members of his cabinet and his political party that he can't recall ever being so ill at any point during his lifetime.

“I am feeling much better now. There may however be need to have further follow-ups within some weeks. I have received the best of treatment I can receive,” the President said.

“I couldn’t recall ever being so sick since I was a real young man including the military goings ups and downs,” he added.

Buhari also said he'll allow Osinbajo continue to steer the ship of state; an indication that he needs plenty of time to convalesce and recuperate from an ailment that still remains undisclosed.

“Youth and intelligence is clearly behind Osinbajo, age and purely military experience is purely behind me,” Buhari said.

“I deliberately came back towards the weekend so that the Vice-President will continue and I will continue to rest,” he added.

Buhari looked frail on his arrival and appears to have lost plenty of weight.

He also lost his footing at the helipad in Abuja where he had been flown in from the contiguous northern Nigeria city of Kaduna.

He thanked Nigerians for their prayers and pledged that he will continue to provide the kind of leadership he was voted in to provide.

"I am deeply grateful to all Nigerians.....Muslims and the Christians alike who have prayed and have continued to pray for my good health", the President said.

"This is a testimony that in spite of the hardship being experienced, Nigerians support the government in its effort to tackle our country's challenges. The best way for me to repay you all is to rededicate myself to serving you, protecting your interest and keeping your trust. I thank you very much. I am feeling much better now".

The Nigerian leader also said he would be jetting out of Nigeria in the coming weeks  for more medical care.

"There may however be need to have further follow-ups within some weeks,” he said.
