National troupe to stage Nobel laureate's play
The National Troupe of Nigeria will stage one of Wole Soyinka's plays, 'Death and the Kings horseman' on November 19 and 20, 2016.

According to National Troupe's Chief Executive Officer, Akin Adejuwon, the play is also part of the Troupe's Christmas celebration performances. It also commemorates Soyinka's win of the Nobel Prize in 1986. Professor Wole Soyinka was the first African to be awarded the prestigious prize.
Adejuwon said: “It is more propitious because, it is thirty years this year since Africa and indeed the world joined Nigeria in celebrating Soyinka's award of the Nobel Prize for Literature. This is a feat that is worth celebrating and we have chosen one of his epic plays which incidentally was written by this time 40 years ago to celebrate the performing and literary icon. Indeed we find the play, which has been acknowledged as one of Africa's best book of the twentieth century, fitting to celebrate this living legend and icon.”

The stage play of 'Death and the King's horseman' on November 19 would be hosted by Lai Mohammed, the Minister of Information and Culture,.
To be performed by National Troupe, the play will be directed by Mike Anyanwu and it will be open to a paying audience on November 20, 2016.
