Bolanle Austen-Peters' play is the first Nigerian play to be sold out in London

Wakaa! the musical enjoyed a very successful London edition and it was a celebration and exhibition of Nigerian culture. ​

A bet between them after graduation leads to twists and turns when they are hit with the realities of life and the realization of folly of their choices.

The successful show had several dignitaries in attendance such as ​Lai Mohammed​, Minister of Information and Culture; Segun Awolowo, CEO of the Nigerian Export Promotion Council; Chinelo Amazu-Anohu, Director General of the Nigerian Pension Commission; Waheed Olagunju, Managing Director of the Bank of Industry; Deji Alli​, ​Managing Director MIXTA Africa; Baroness Lindsay Northover, mem​​ber of the House of Lords and Trade Envoy to Angola; Ms Kate Osamor (MP) – Chair, Nigeria All Parliamentary Party Group

Will Gompertz​, ​the BBC Art Editor described Wakaa the musical as “soulful,colourful and dynamic” and having “a spirit and sensibility that is fresh and true”​.​

This opinion was affirmed by Conor Gaffey, Editor of Europe’s News Week  who concluded that  “the show has heart, energy and a great sense of humor, and received a standing ovation on the final night when Newsweek was in attendance”​

Wakaa! the musical, ​​was a completely sold out show and the hugely successful homegrown musical is the first of its kind to debut at the Shaw Theatre London.
