In the 80s, Joan enjoyed massive popularity as a bonafied comedian and was even termed till date the Queen of Comedy. She hosted the famous Saturday Night Live in 1983 and further released a best-selling comedy album titled, “What Becomes a Semi Legend Most?” which reached No. 22 on US Billboard 200 and got a Grammy Award nomination for Best Comedy Album. Another book, became a best seller but the TV special on the character couldn't succeed. She also matched to court in 1986 with Frank Marino for using her real stand-up materials in his popular Las Vegas Act.
In 1987, Joan lost her husband, Edgar Rosenburg to suicide after both were fired by Fox executives when she challenged them not to sack her hubby as producer of her TV show. However she went ahead to win an Emmy in 1990 for The Joan Rivers Show (ran for 5 years). Then in 1994, the talk show host and daughter Melissa Rosenburg and later Melissa Rivers hosted the E! Entertainment Television pre-awards show for the Golden Globes Awards before moving to the 1995 Academy Awards.In 2009 Rivers won the Celebrity Apprenticeand in 2005, she became one of the four Americans invited to Prince Charles and Camilla’s wedding in England.

In 2010, Rivers began the largely followed E! Fashion Police Show alongside George Kotsiopolos, Giuliana Rancic and Kelly Osbourne as a thirty minutes show. But by March 2012, E! took it up to an hour given the number of viewers they attracted all over the world.
